VO The First Lao Fashion Week 2014 kicks off
INTRO: The First Lao Fashion Week 2014 which is being supported by the French Ambassador to Laos and a number of businesses kicks off. The event aims to show to the international fashion community the capacity of Lao fashion and design as well as identify individual designers and develop the brand names of Laos
INTRO: Officials, the founder of Lao Fashion Week and a group of models gathered for a reception party at the French Ambassador’s Residence on Wednesday night to promote Lao Fashion Week in the run up to the event.
French Ambassador to Laos, Yves Carmona, Chairman of the Board Committee for Lao Fashion Week and Young Designers Development Project, Somsanouk Mixay joined Founder, Pany Saignavongs, expressing the importance and purpose of fashion week, which is to showcase the abilities of Lao fashion designers to produce garments for the international market.
French Ambassador Yves Carmona said, “We jointly imagined this reception, in the spirit of existing and gratifying partnership. The French residence welcomes this French (but open to the world) art that fashion represents, with designers from Lao or of Lao descent, like my fellow compatriot Nittiya who is already known here”
Somsanouk Mixay said not only would Lao Fashion Week create a platform for Lao designers to showcase their talents and works but also create opportunities for Lao brands to meet the international fashion stage as well as develop textiles and the fashion scene in Laos.
Founder, Pany Saignavongs said the reception was a chance for officials and foreign guests to warm up before the fashion runway takes place on March 6-7 at the Grand Ballroom of Settha Place hotel in Vientiane.
Pany Saignavongs said after fashion week they will launch a design contest throughout Laos. The committee will select the winner, who will be fully sponsored to attend Lao Fashion Week this year and also the next.
The committee expects to see the winner develop to the next level by undertaking a special training course.
A design contest as part of Lao young designer development project which will help encourage Lao people who are talented but lack opportunities to develop their careers in the fashion and design industry.
French wine from Sauvignon and Semillon were served at the reception, the first time such a special warm-up event has taken place in Laos, and everyone is now primed for the big event in two days time.
The fashion clothes worn by model Nittiya Somsanith and Elegant interested the participants greatly, many of whom had never had the chance to admire Lao designers before.
The main fashion show featuring items from Phaeng Mai Gallery, Mandarina, Ministry of Silk, L’Elegant and Nittaya Somsanith appear on the catwalk in the Grand Ballroom of the Settha Palace Hotel on March 6-7 from 7-8pm.
